Rational #1 (Ad)

For the first composition, I decided to create an ad that is supposed to represent pink tax occurring. The ad is supposed highlights the severity of pink tax. I choose this genre because I wanted the audience to get the breadth of pink tax. In the ad, the title says, “Do You See the Problem?”, and at the bottom, there are aisles of products. In the first aisle, there are female products that have prices and three girls staring at the products. This is supposed to represent the stages of a female: young, teen and old. I drew it so that it was more of a mother-daughter relationship between them. They have a little dialogue between each other, showing the disadvantage of not being able to afford the product. The second aisle shows the male products with the three boys to represents the stages of men as well. The dialogue between them is more positive than the female dialogue. For instance, the boy character is able to buy the products because of how cheap it is, while the girl characters are sad because they can’t afford the doll. You can also see the first girl debating whether she should buy male razors or female razors, for the sake of being able to afford the razor. This represents pink tax because if you look closely at the aisle the female aisle has more expensive product. For instance, the bag from the female aisle was priced for one hundred twenty-five dollars, while the bag from the male aisle was priced for fifty dollars.

Reflection for composition #1 (Pink paper)

In the first composition, it is an ad that is supposed to represent pink tax occurring. It has little to no dialogue because I wanted the readers to be able to pinpoint pink tax without having to be told. This also helps other audiences who don’t have knowledge of pink tax to make a logical assumption that women pay more for products than men. In the add you see three girls facing the shelves and looking at the products for them. On the shelf, there is pads, vitamins, toys, and bags, with different price tags on it. The girls are speaking among themselves asking and wondering why things are so expensive, meanwhile on the other aisle is male products. For instance, I included male supplements, bags, toys and etc. that men use, with different price tags as well. This allows the viewer to compare the women and male aisle because the products are the same except one is made for male and female. To which I hope the audience would grasp that female products are being priced higher than men. Also, the three girls and boys in the aisle are supposed to signify the different stages in life. To which I hoped the audience was able to compare and contrast how much would each individual would compare the product each person wanted and the price difference between the male and females. For instance, the girl asked for a doll, but it was really expensive. But when you look over to the male aisle when the little boy asked for the toy since it was cheaper. This also highlighted the burden that the pink tax causes because it makes the financial aspect of life more difficult for women. I also included the title, “Do you see the problem?” Because I wanted to make people find the problem and look deeper into the ad.
